About Ignite

Ignite® is a social enterprise that supports people who are exploring self-employment. We work with individuals who are experiencing barriers to receiving support for their idea. Ignite clients are from diverse backgrounds including CALD communities, People with Disability, First Nations, women, youth and low income.  Our 2024 impact focus is to support women to participate economically through skill building, access to networks, and create income through their enterprises.

  • If you are time poor, and need flexible support, our program will work at a pace that suits your needs.
  • We can meet with you online, in person at location near you, or at our office. We offer these choices to help overcome the barrier of travel time and safety.
  • If English is not your first language, we can make you more comfortable by providing interpreters in our support sessions.
  • Do you need to bring your children with you to meetings, no problem, we have child friendly spaces.
  • Ignite can support you with incidental costs to develop your business idea. (No loans or cash funding provided)
  • We will help identify what stage of your business idea you are at, and create custom pathways unique to you.

Ignite’s Impact and Evidence

  • Since 2013, Ignite has been evolving the support provided to individuals based on their requests and their needs. We put the client at the centre of everything we do, including co-design of the program. Our clients have helped us develop the perfect mix of activities and support to ensure their success.
  • Ignite has more than 75% of the workforce with prior experience of either the communities we work with, or as business owners themselves. Our clients say that having people who look, talk and are from their similar backgrounds made them feel included and increased their confidence to join Ignite.
  • The Ignite team places emphasis on building capability and skills, and increasing confidence of the people we work with. Starting a business is not the goal. If a person is best suited to further training or to join the workforce, then we support the best pathway for them.
  • The businesses that we help start are awesome! We have evidence that 76% of the businesses we support are still operational after 2 years. Considering the backgrounds and barriers that our clients are from, this is above the Australian national average.
